BIRTH: November 11, 2003
DEATH: July 24, 2007
Victoria, 3, died in the home of her father and stepmother. The stepmother said that the father got upset the day before she died because Victoria had wet her pants and was putting holes in the walls. The stepmother said her father hit her in the head and slapped her so hard in the face she fell down.
Later that night, the stepmother said, he put Victoria to be early saying he was going to read her a story, something that he rarely did. Her bed time was usually around 9 PM but that night he put her to bed way before 9.
Prosecutors believe Paul Brower killed his daughter by suffocating her sometime after they say he disciplined her. A forensic pathologist said that he believes Victoria’s death was indeed caused by suffocation. He said it was clearly not accidental.
The prosecution argued Brower, angry with Victoria for wetting her pants and putting holes in the walls, killed her in her bed. A medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, saying she died of asphyxia by suffocation.
The father was found not guilty of his daughters death and he and his family feel the stepmother was the cause of the Victoria’s death. However, Victoria’s mother, Jessica Jewell, and her family, feel the jury got it wrong and set a murderer free.
Victoria’s murder remains officially unsolved.
