Gail Coontz, their mother, then left the house and took a hostage at the college she was attending.

I have not been able to find a reason for these senseless murders. A clear motive has never been given or written.

Gail Coontz was charged with two counts of murder and terrorist threats. She plead guilty and was sentenced to 25 years to life.

CONNER HOGAN CONLEY

Conner Hogan Conley ~ Age 10

BIRTH: May 29, 1999

DEATH: November 28, 2009

Conner, 10, was knocked unconscious with a headlock, then his limp body dragged to the kitchen, choked for nearly 20 minutes, until blood ran from his nose, to make sure he was dead.

The killer – Andrew Conley, Conner’s older brother.

Andrew, 17,  then wrapped his little brother’s head in a plastic bag and sealed it with electrical tape. He claimed he did so to prevent any blood seepage. He then tossed Conner’s body into the trunk of his car and drove to his girlfriend’s home.

While there, the young couple watched the movie “The Green Mile,” based on a story by Stephen King about a man on death row accused of murdering a child. Conley’s girlfriend stated that he gave her a “sweetheart ring” and that “he was happy. More happy than he’d been in a while.”

Afterward, Andrew drove his brother’s body to a nearby park where he dumped the body in field. He then covered his little brother’s dead body with vegetation and drove home.

When Andrew’s parents returned home they asked the whereabouts of Conner. Andrew told them he had taken his brother to their grandmother’s home and that he was spending the night there. The parents thought nothing of it as it was not unusual for their boys to stay over at their grandmother’s.

Later the next day, his parents told him to pick up his brother from his grandmother’s home. That’s when he told them what he had done. He also told two friends about the murder.

Andrew claimed he felt compelled to strangle his little brother. “Like I had to… like when people have something like they are hungry and there is a hamburger sitting there and they knew they had to have it and I was sitting there and it just happened.”

He was charged as an adult and plead guilty to first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

KATLYN COLLMAN

BIRTH: August 13, 1994

DEATH: January 25, 2005

Katlyn Collman ~ Age 10

Katie, 10, was a fourth grader who loved animals and the Disney Channel. She came home the day she went missing excited about a pajama party planned at school the next day.

Katie headed to the Dollar General store a few blocks away to pick up some toilet paper. She apparently swung by the People’s Bank to grab a lollipop, and stopped at the Penn Villa apartments to tell a resident that a dog had been hit by a train on the adjacent track.

She was never seen alive again.

After her disappearance, an AMBER Alert was issued

5 days later a state trooper found her body in a creek with her hands tied behind her back. She had been sexually assaulted and drowned.

Charles Hickman, 20, and Anthony Stockelman were arrested for the rape and murder of Katie. Charles Hickman confessed to killing Katie, but after investigators spent nine weeks checking his story, he was released from custody and the murder charge against him was dropped. To many people placed him some place else and DNA connected Anthony Stockelman to the crime.

Anthony Stockelman was charged with the rape and murder of Katie, and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

CYNTHIA DIONNE WESLEY

BIRTH: April 30, 1949

DEATH: September 15, 1963

Cynthia Dionne Wesley ~ Age 14

Cynthia, 14, was murdered inside a church during the Civil Rights Movement in a bombing. Along with Carole, Addie Mae Collins, 14, Denise McNair, 11, and Carole Robertson, 14, were also killed.

On the morning of the bombing, a man was seen getting out of a white and turquoise Chevrolet car and placing a box under the steps of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. Afterwards, at 10:22 a.m., the bomb exploded killing the four girls. The girls had been attending Sunday school classes at the church. Twenty-two other people were also hurt by the blast.

A witness identified Robert Chambliss, a member of the Ku Klux Klan, as the man who placed the bomb under the steps of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. He was arrested and charged with murder and possessing a box of 122 sticks of dynamite without a permit. On October 8, 1963, Chambliss was found not guilty of murder and received a hundred-dollar fine and a six-month jail sentence for having the dynamite.

The case was unsolved until Bill Baxley was elected attorney general of Alabama. He requested the original Federal Bureau of Investigation files on the case and discovered that the organization had accumulated a great deal of evidence against Chambliss that had not been used in the original trial. In November, 1977 Chambliss was tried once again for the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing. Now aged 73, Chambliss was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. Chambliss died in an Alabama prison on 29 October 1985.

On 18 May 2000, the FBI announced that the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing had been carried out by the Ku Klux Klan splinter group, the Cahaba Boys. It was claimed that four men, Robert Chambliss, Herman Cash, Thomas Blanton and Bobby Cherry had been responsible for the crime. Cash was dead but Blanton and Cherry were arrested and Blanton has since been tried and convicted.

The song “Birmingham Sunday,” recorded by Joan Baez memorialized the victims of the bombing. In 1997 a documentary film on the bombing called “4 Little Girls” was released. A youth center dedicated to her was established in Birmingham.

JAMAREE CLARENCE COLEMAN

BIRTH: May 25, 1993

DEATH: July 24, 1993

Jamaree Clarence Coleman ~ Age 2 months

Jamaree, 2 months, and his mother, Cheryl Lewrisey Coleman, were visiting Cheryl’s brother and left in the early morning hours. Her brother offered to give her a ride but she declined saying she would walk. Jamaree and his mother were last seen at a gas station and they apparently got into a truck driven by a drifter, Carl Harris.

Cheryl’s body was discovered at approximately six hours after she was last seen, in Academy Creek, several blocks from her brother’s home. The creek is infested with snakes and alligators. Authorities determined Cheryl died as the result of a homicide. Her body was nude and had been mutilated. There was no sign of Jamaree at the scene, but his baby carrier and blanket were left behind.

Carl Harris stated he killed Cheryl in a wooded area and then left Jamaree at the edge of Academy Creek after he put Cheryl’s body in the water. It is believed Jamaree was swept away by high tides.

Carl Harris was charged with both Cheryl and Jamaree’s homicides and pleaded guilty to the crimes. He was sentenced to two terms of life in prison without parole, plus twenty years for assault.

Jamaree is still listed as missing; as his body has never been found.

BIRTH: January 25, 2000

DEATH: May 5, 2009

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Garett, 11, and Gavin, 9, with their mother Sheri, were strangled to death in their home by Christopher Coleman, their father.
Garett and Gavin’s father, after strangling his sons and wife in their beds, spray painted threatening messages on the wall with red paint to make it look like someone else committed the crimes. He was able to do this, as his children lay dead and still tucked into their beds as if they were sleeping.
He left the house the day of the murders to set up and alibi by going to the gym but it was later found that Garett, Gavin and their mother had been killed hours before he left the house.
Before the murders it has been shown that he set up an email account to send threatening emails to himself to throw investigators off his trail.
An investigation showed that Christopher murdered his family so he could start a new life with this mistress.
Christopher Coleman was charged with 3 counts of first-degree murder of his family. He was convicted and sentenced to life without parole.
DONALD COFFEY, JR
BIRTH: September 18, 2001
DEATH: May 9, 2009
Donald Coffey Jr. ~ Age 7
Donald, 7, was shot in the face and head and died two days later by two people as his family stopped on a public road to allow the children to use the restroom. They were returning from a family outing.
The road in which they stopped was close to a couples home with a sign in their yard that read, “Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be re-shot, Smile I will”. The investigation reveled that the family wasn’t anywhere close to their property. The area included a dirt road, trees and overgrown brush and that it wasn’t uncommon for people to go off-roading there.
Sheila Muhs fired a 12-gauge shotgun once, then handed it to her husband, Gale Muhs, who also fired once.
Sheila then called 911 and told the dispatcher: “They’re running over our levee in big-wheel vehicles, and I shot them.”
The levee belonged to the subdivision and was not private property.
There was no indication the unarmed victims did anything threatening toward the Muhs.
Donald Coffey Sr., Donald’s father, suffered a pellet wound in his right shoulder and his sister, Destiny, suffered a wound to the elbow. A family friend, Patrick Cammack, was in serious condition with a head wound. He is now out of the hospital with a shot gun pellet that can’t be removed from behind his ear.
Sheila Muhs was charged with felony murder and attempted murder and convicted in April, 2011. Sentencing is still pending.
Gale Muhs was charged with felony murder and attempted murder and his trial is still pending.
AMANDA “MANDIE” COCO
BIRTH: March 6, 1995
DEATH: May 30, 2007
Amanda "Mandie" Coco ~ Age 12
Mandie, 12, was murdered by her father, Christopher Coco, a few weeks after she reported that her father was molesting her. After murdering Mandie, he shot and killed him self in what police labeled a murder-suicide.
People said they always thought Mandie’s father, Christopher, was an odd man who screamed at children and sported a pistol strapped to his hip. He would threaten them and tell them he killed his wife and buried in the back of the house. People said Mandie would walk around with bruises on her arms and legs. The week before her father killed her, she sported a cast on her arm. Her friends, and others said she always made excuses as to how they happened. She told friends that her father molested her and mostly did it on holidays.
Police went to the apartment to check on Mandie at the request of KidsPeace, where she was enrolled, because she had not been seen at school in a while. Police got no response when they knocked on the door  and when an officer returned about six hours later and noticed flies clumped on inside windows, the officer became suspicious. He had the building manager let him inside the apartment where he located Mandie.
Mandie and her father’s bodies were found upstairs next to each other, on a bed, and a 9mm semiautomatic handgun was found under Christopher Coco. Police were not certain how long they had been dead, but they believed it was more than 24 hours.
There were no signs someone had broken into their apartment. The windows were locked and both doors were deadbolted from the inside. One door had a snow shovel wedged under the doorknob and another door had a crutch jammed under the knob. Mandie and her father lived in the apartment alone.
Jade, 17, Joi, 11, and their mother Stacy, were stabbed to death by the boyfriend of Jade.
Denzel Pittman and Jade had an ongoing dating relationship. They got into an argument as they were on the stairs leading up to the third floor apartment Jade shared with her mother, Stacy, and sister, Joi.
The argument became physical and Denzel started beating and strangling Jade. He then stabbed her at least 11 times in her neck, shoulder and chest.
As she cried out for help, her mother, Stacy, came to the door of the apartment. Denzel then turned his weapon on Stacy, stabbing her about 15 times in her head, chest, arms and hands.
Joi was screaming during the attack on her mother and Denzel entered the apartment and stabbed Joi in her chest and head to stop her screaming.
Witnesses identified Pittman as the person seen walking past his girlfriend lying on the apartment landing. His clothes and hands were covered in blood. They were able to give a detailed description of Denzel. That description was broadcast over the police radio, and officers from the Targeted Response Unit found Pittman walking down the street. Pittman immediately ran from the officers after spotting them, but the officers chased him and caught him before he could get away.
Denzel Pittman was charged with 3 counts of first-degree murder and is awaiting trial.
MADELYN “MADDIE” RAE CLIFTON
BIRTH: June 17, 1990
DEATH: November 3, 1998
Madelyn "Maddie" Rae Clifton ~ Age 8
Maddie, 8, was murdered by a 14 year old friend of hers because he was afraid that she would tell that he hit her with a baseball.
When Maddie disappeared the first suspect named in the case was neighbor Larry Grisham. Larry Grisham had been arrested twice in the past, both times between 15 and 20 years earlier, in sexual battery cases, but in both incidents, charges were dropped. Grisham failed a lie detector test in relation to Maddie’s disappearance, but provided an alibi.
Police called off the search for Maddie, but the community, including over 400 volunteers, persisted. A reward was offered, that initially was $50,000 but later doubled. One of the volunteers searching for Maddie was Joshua Phillips. Joshua lived with his parents in a one-story house, across the street from Maddie’s family. He was also considered a friend of hers which she would play with.
8 days after Maddie disappeared her body was found when Joshua’s mother, Melissa, found that his waterbed appeared to be leaking. Upon further examination, she discovered Maddie’s body hidden inside the pedestal of Phillips’s waterbed. She promptly ran outside her home and went across the street to get the police.
Joshua was arrested that day at school for the murder of his friend, Maddie.
The teen told police detectives he accidentally hit Maddie with a baseball while they were playing and fearing his father’s wrath, he dragged Maddie inside, and bludgeoned her with a baseball bat to silence her cries. He concealed Maddie within the frame of his waterbed and went about the house as usual as nothing was amiss.
Later, during dinner that same evening, Joshua heard Maddie whimpering. He then returned to his room, where, using a knife to silence his friend, he stabbed Maddie 9 times in the neck and chest. Police were able to retrieve both the bat and the knife used in the assault.
For 8 nights, Joshua slept over Maddie’s body before his mother, Melissa, discovered the child’s sock-covered feet extruding from the waterbed frame. The murder appears to have been motivated by Joshua’s fear of his abusive father, who would have been very angry had he found Maddie inside their house.
Joshua Earl Patrick Phillips, at age 15, was charged with first degree murder in the death of his 8-year-old neighbour and playmate, Madelyn Clifton. He was charged as an adult. He was convicted and sentenced to life without parole. He’s appealing his case based on his age and having a sentence of no parole.
NOTE: This handwritten letter, written by Joshua, was among court documents released after a jury convicted him of the first-degree murder of his friend Maddie.
”I can only imagine how hard this is for you. I can’t tell you how sorry and guilty I feel. Every night, I think to myself if only I could of had reacted better to the situation and not have been thinking about getting in trouble.
I didn’t think about the situation. I was stupid and only thought about what trouble I’d be in even though it was an accident. I was so damn stupid. I didn’t want my dad angry at me and I guess I did it to be safe from him. But it wasn’t worth it. I made a huge mistake. I’m so sorry. I can only beg for your forgiveness. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
Authorities said they didn’t know to whom the letter was intended. It was the only sign of emotion that Joshua expressed during the eight months after his arrest and during his trial.
Amir, 10, and Gerard, 7, were killed while spending the night at their aunts house during Spring Break. Along with Amir and Gerard, their aunt, Precious Tripplett, and her boyfriend, Andre Jones, were also murdered.
The bodies of the 4 victims were found by, Gerard Clemons Sr., the father of Amir and Gerard when he hadn’t heard from his sons. When he got the apartment he walked into a nightmare. He found an 14 month old baby boy crying and covered in blood. The 14 month old was the son of Precious and the accused killer. Davon Anderson, 14 months, was unharmed.
The first thing Gerard Sr. saw was Andre, the boyfriend, laying in the kitchen in a pool of blood, as he kept going looking for his sons he found them in the back bedroom along with their aunt dead.
Gevante D. Anderson, broke into the apartment to attack Precious Triplett, and then shot three of the victims and stabbed one of the boys to death.
An Autopsy later showed that Gerard was stabbed a total of 131 times, including defensive wounds. Gevante said that Gerard came out of hiding just as he was getting ready to leave and he stabbed him to death. He also stated that “He just wouldn’t die“.
Amir had been shot and stabbed more than 40 times.
The murders were committed because of Gevante’s jealousy over another man taking his 14 month old son, Davon, to get a hair cut. He was so upset over this that he went to the apartment and killed 4 people in a violent and bloody crime spree. Then he left his baby in the house with the bodies and left the scene.
Gevante D. Anderson was charged with 4 counts of first degree murder and found guilty. He was sentenced to 4 life sentences with any chance of parole.
SABRINA A. CLEMENT
BIRTH: October 15, 2004
DEATH: May 22, 2009
Sabrina A. Clement ~ Age 4
Sabrina, 4, was stabbed to death in her home by her half-brother. He murdered Sabrina because his mother wouldn’t allow him to have a gun.
 He called for help then met police at the door, his pants covered in blood. He stated to the officers, calmly, “it was me.”
Inside the home police found drops of blood leading up the carpeted steps from the sub-basement across the white ceramic kitchen floor to a wall-mounted phone with a handset covered in blood. Keith Randulich called 911 three times after the slaying, saying “come over quick” and “get over here” in two separate calls.
Sabrina’s 16-year-old brother told police he was upstairs playing a video game, unaware that anything was wrong until he saw flashing police lights through his bedroom window, the affidavit stated. He went downstairs, saw Keith covered in blood and asked, “What did you do?”
Keith confessed to taking Sabrina into the sub-basement, straddling her as she struggled and screamed, and stabbing her. She died of what was described as “numerous and massive stab wounds to her neck“.
Keith told police he slit her throat to protect her from another abusive relative, but the Coroner said there was no evidence of molestation on her body.
Before killing the girl, Keith said he wanted to buy a gun to kill the “bigger and stronger” abuser, but his mother refused to purchase a firearm for him.
So Keith waited for his parents to leave the home, grabbed a steak knife and lured the girl into his basement bedroom. After he killed her, he ran up the stairs and called 911 to report the crime.
I gave her a kiss and said, ‘I am sorry, I had to do it.”
Keith Randulich was charged as an adult with murder and sentenced to 40 years in prison.
